BASIC IN-STORE PROMOTIONS
Make it a habit to never let a customer leave your store
without something in their hand to give them a reason to come back.
You and your employees have
already given them a reason to come back, of course, by your friendliness and
wonderful service, and the fabulous presentation of your merchandise but this is
not enough. Here are some ideas to
choose from:
1. STORE BROCHURE
Tell about the great services you provide to benefit them, the customer
and consignor. Mention the consignment or buy-outright policies, what
merchandise is acceptable and how and when it should be brought in.
List annual clearance sales or other yearly events to look forward to.
What ways do you support the community?
What is the history of your store? Don’t
forget to mention address, phone, e-mail and website, owners name, and
professional affiliations such as membership in the local Chamber of Commerce,
NARTS, etc. The brochure gives your
store professional credibility.
2. STORE NEWSLETTER
OR EVENT CALENDAR
Publish monthly or quarterly. Hand
out in the store, snail mail or e-mail to retail or consignor customers.
Set a format and fill in the blanks.
Keep it simple and easy to read. A
good way to get more current information out about special events, sales, or
what merchandise is now accepted. Add
some human interest—what nice things do customers say about your store?
Was an outfit bought at your store worn at the White House?
Event calendars for the month can list special sales or events on a
calendar format. Popular ideas are;
Monday Madness—take 50% off selected merchandise, or Senior Savings
Saturday—take 15% off all purchases.
3. STORE
“COME-BACK” BUCKS, OR PUNCH CARD
Basically a “cash back” principle.
Give a “buck” for each $20-25 of merchandise bought.
$89 sale? Give 4
bucks. Tell the customer to keep the “bucks” in their wallet to
remind them they have money to spend! And
don’t forget, we put out new merchandise every day!
Cards are
kept by the customer and punched for merchandise bought.
Free merchandise or discounts are given for a fully punched card.
